Day 1
Zurich and the Rhine Falls
Europe's largest waterfall by volume, thirty minutes from Switzerland's biggest city.
Your private driver meets you at Zurich Airport and takes you north to Schaffhausen before the city — to the Rhine Falls at Neuhausen, the largest waterfall in Europe by volume: 600 cubic metres per second in summer, pouring over a twenty-metre limestone drop with a roar audible from the lookout platforms on both banks. The medieval town of Schaffhausen above the falls has a Munot fortress whose circular design is unique in European military architecture, and a well-preserved Altstadt of oriel windows and painted facades. By noon you are in Zurich. The afternoon: the Fraumünster with Chagall's windows, the Kunsthaus expansion, the Limmatquai guild houses, and the Bahnhofstrasse. Welcome dinner in the Altstadt.
