Private Copenhagen Tours

Copenhagen appears in 3 of our itineraries across Scandinavia, ranging from 7–14 days. Every one is private, and every one can be reshaped around the time you want to spend here.

What a day in Copenhagen looks like.

Taken from the itineraries themselves — these are real days from trips we run, not a generic description of the city.

Day 2 · Essence of Denmark

Copenhagen in Depth

Christiansborg Palace on the island of Slotsholmen: the seat of the Danish parliament, the Supreme Court, and the Ministry of State, built on the foundations of the original 1167 castle. The Great Hall contains the largest contemporary tapestry in the world — fifteen panels by Bjørn Nørgaard depicting ten centuries of Danish history, woven in 1990 to mark Queen Margrethe II's fiftieth birthday. Rosenborg Castle in the King's Garden: the Dutch Renaissance castle built by Christian IV in 1606 that houses the Danish crown jewels and the regalia collection in its treasury. The Little Mermaid on the Langelinie promenade: the bronze sculpture by Edvard Eriksen (1913) based on the Andersen fairy tale, the most visited monument in Denmark despite being smaller than most visitors expect. The Designmuseum Danmark in the Bredgade: the design collection that traces the principles of Danish Modernism — the furniture, ceramics, and industrial design that have made Denmark the country that exports its aesthetic to the world.

  • Christiansborg Palace — parliament, courts, and the Nørgaard tapestries
  • Rosenborg Castle — Christian IV's 1606 Dutch Renaissance castle
  • The Little Mermaid — Eriksen's 1913 bronze on the Langelinie

Day 1 · Grand Scandinavia

Arrival in Copenhagen

Your private driver meets you at Copenhagen Airport. The afternoon in Nyhavn — the 17th-century canal of coloured merchants' houses — and an introduction to the Copenhagen that has made the city the most discussed food destination in the world since Noma opened in 2003. Welcome dinner at a restaurant representing the New Nordic school: the local, seasonal, fermented, and foraged cuisine that Danish and other Scandinavian chefs have been developing since the early 2000s.

  • Private airport transfer
  • Nyhavn canal and the Copenhagen harbourfront
  • Tivoli Gardens — the 1843 park that inspired Disneyland

Day 3 · Essence of Scandinavia

North Zealand and the Night Ferry to Oslo

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art at Humlebæk — the finest modern art museum in Scandinavia, whose glass corridors connect white pavilions extending into a sculpture garden above the Øresund. Kronborg Castle at Helsingør: the UNESCO World Heritage fortress that Shakespeare used as the setting for Hamlet. The night ferry from Copenhagen to Oslo: the DFDS cruise ferry that departs Copenhagen in the evening and arrives in Oslo the following morning — an overnight cabin crossing through the Øresund and Kattegat that is the authentic Scandinavian way to cross from Denmark to Norway.

  • Louisiana Museum — the sculpture garden above the Øresund
  • Kronborg Castle — Hamlet's fortress at Helsingør
  • Copenhagen evening and DFDS night ferry departure
