Private Zurich Tours

Zurich appears in 3 of our itineraries across Switzerland, ranging from 7–9 days. Every one is private, and every one can be reshaped around the time you want to spend here.

From our itineraries

What a day in Zurich looks like.

Taken from the itineraries themselves — these are real days from trips we run, not a generic description of the city.

Day 1 · Essence of Switzerland

Zurich: The City on the Lake

Zurich sits at the northern tip of its lake with the Alps visible on clear days from the Lindenhügel hill, and its character is the productive contradiction of Swiss precision and a genuine cosmopolitan culture. Your private driver meets you at the airport. The Altstadt on both banks of the Limmat River contains the Grossmünster — the Romanesque twin-towered church from whose pulpit Zwingli launched the Swiss Reformation in 1519 — and the Fraumünster, whose five apse windows were designed by Marc Chagall in 1970 and are the most extraordinary stained glass in Switzerland. The Kunsthaus, recently expanded to become the largest art museum in Switzerland, holds one of the finest collections of Swiss and German Expressionism in the world alongside significant French Impressionist and contemporary works. The Bahnhofstrasse for the late afternoon: the most expensive retail street in the world and also the address of the chocolate and confectionery shops that give Swiss confectionery its reputation. Dinner at a restaurant by the lake or in the Niederdorf quarter, the old city's restaurant district.

  • Private airport transfer
  • Fraumünster — Marc Chagall's five apse windows
  • Kunsthaus Zurich — the finest art collection in Switzerland

Day 1 · Swiss Alps

Zurich: Arrival and the River City

Zurich's Altstadt sits on both banks of the Limmat where it flows out of the lake, and the quality of light over the water on a clear afternoon — with the Alps visible to the south — makes it immediately apparent why the Swiss arranged their city this way. Your private driver meets you at the airport. The afternoon at leisure: the Grossmünster's twin Romanesque towers, the Fraumünster's five Chagall windows, the Kunsthaus expansion by architect David Chipperfield that opened in 2021 and made Zurich's art museum the largest in Switzerland. The Zurich lake promenade in the evening: the Bellevue square, the Limmatquai with its guild houses, the Niederdorf quarter where the restaurants and bars are in medieval buildings above the river. Welcome dinner at a restaurant in the Altstadt — fondue or Zürcher Geschnetzeltes, the veal-in-cream-sauce dish that Zurich invented and does better than anywhere else.

  • Private airport transfer
  • Fraumünster — Marc Chagall's windows
  • Kunsthaus Zurich — the largest art museum in Switzerland

Day 1 · Best of Switzerland

Zurich and the Rhine Falls

Your private driver meets you at Zurich Airport and takes you north to Schaffhausen before the city — to the Rhine Falls at Neuhausen, the largest waterfall in Europe by volume: 600 cubic metres per second in summer, pouring over a twenty-metre limestone drop with a roar audible from the lookout platforms on both banks. The medieval town of Schaffhausen above the falls has a Munot fortress whose circular design is unique in European military architecture, and a well-preserved Altstadt of oriel windows and painted facades. By noon you are in Zurich. The afternoon: the Fraumünster with Chagall's windows, the Kunsthaus expansion, the Limmatquai guild houses, and the Bahnhofstrasse. Welcome dinner in the Altstadt.

  • Rhine Falls — Europe's largest waterfall by volume
  • Schaffhausen Altstadt and Munot fortress
  • Fraumünster — Chagall's five apse windows
