Private Osaka Tours

Osaka appears in 6 of our itineraries across Japan, ranging from 9–14 days. Every one is private, and every one can be reshaped around the time you want to spend here.

From our itineraries

What a day in Osaka looks like.

Taken from the itineraries themselves — these are real days from trips we run, not a generic description of the city.

Day 8 · Essence of Japan

Osaka: The City That Eats

Osaka is thirty minutes from Kyoto by Shinkansen and is the anti-Kyoto: loud, commercial, self-deprecating, and devoted to food in a way that has its own name — kuidaore, meaning 'eat until you drop'. Osaka's Dotonbori canal district is the most concentrated food street in Japan: takoyaki (octopus balls), okonomiyaki (savoury pancake), kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers), and the restaurants that have been serving Osaka soul food for generations. Your private guide navigates the food, the history, and the culture in equal parts: Osaka Castle, whose reconstruction in 1931 sits within the original 16th-century stone walls and moat that Toyotomi Hideyoshi built to unify feudal Japan; the Kuromon Ichiba market, the city's kitchen for two hundred years; and Shinsekai — the 1912 entertainment district whose Tsutenkaku Tower has been the city's symbol since its rebuilding in 1956. Dinner at a restaurant your guide recommends for the specific Osaka cuisine you have been building toward all week.

  • Dotonbori — the most concentrated food street in Japan
  • Takoyaki, okonomiyaki, kushikatsu — the Osaka table
  • Osaka Castle and its 16th-century stone walls

Day 8 · Ryokan & Onsen Japan

Osaka: Kuidaore

Arima Onsen is thirty minutes from Osaka. Your private guide for the day: Osaka Castle — the 16th-century stone walls and moat that Toyotomi Hideyoshi built as the political centre of a unified Japan — and the Osaka that is not the castle. The Dotonbori canal, where the food stalls have been operating for two hundred years, the running man neon sign for Glico candy visible from every bridge, and the takoyaki octopus balls sold at the counter you eat standing up. The Kuromon Ichiba market — the city's kitchen for 200 years — for the late morning visit when the stalls are at full operation: fresh tuna being sliced, Kobe beef being weighed, and the Osaka vendors' particular style of direct engagement with customers that is different from Tokyo's quiet formality. The evening at Dotonbori at its neon peak.

  • Osaka Castle — Hideyoshi's political headquarters
  • Dotonbori canal food street
  • Kuromon Ichiba market at full operation

Day 9 · Japan with Disney

Osaka: Japan's Food Capital

Osaka is thirty minutes from Kyoto and Japan's most enthusiastically food-focused city — a character that has its own word (kuidaore) and an entire district (Dotonbori) given over to its expression. Takoyaki octopus balls, okonomiyaki savoury pancake, kushikatsu deep-fried skewers, and the ramen shops whose broth has been simmering since before you were born. Your private guide navigates the city with the ease of someone who has lived here: Osaka Castle in its 16th-century stone moat, the Kuromon Ichiba market at its busy midday peak, and the Shinsekai district around the Tsutenkaku Tower where the old entertainment quarter of 1912 Osaka still operates as a functioning neighbourhood. Dinner at a specific restaurant your guide has identified for the meal of the trip.

  • Dotonbori canal and the Osaka food street
  • Osaka Castle and the 16th-century stone walls
  • Kuromon Ichiba market

Day 9 · Japan: Cherry Blossom Season

Osaka: The Castle and the Final Blossom

Osaka is thirty minutes from Kyoto by Shinkansen. Osaka Castle Park surrounds the 16th-century stone walls and moat with 600 cherry trees that are typically in full bloom when the Kyoto season is at its height — one of the finest castle-and-blossom combinations in Japan. Your private guide navigates the Osaka that is not the castle: the Dotonbori canal food street, the Kuromon Ichiba market at full midday operation, and the Shinsekai neighbourhood. The last bowl of takoyaki and the last walk beside the canal in the evening with the neon reflections in the water.

  • Osaka Castle Park — 600 cherry trees in the moat gardens
  • Final hanami — blossom and the 16th-century walls
  • Dotonbori food street

Day 14 · Epic Japan

Departure from Osaka or Fukuoka

Shinkansen from Fukuoka to Osaka takes two hours and fifteen minutes, or direct departure from Fukuoka International Airport if flights allow. In Osaka: the Dotonbori canal food street for a final takoyaki and a walk through Kuromon market. Your private driver transfers you to Kansai International or Itami Airport at the agreed time. Japan rewards return visits more than any other country in the world — the certainty of that is usually apparent by the last morning.

  • Shinkansen Fukuoka to Osaka — or direct Fukuoka departure
  • Final Osaka morning — Dotonbori and Kuromon
  • Private transfer to Kansai Airport

Day 11 · Ancient Japan

Departure from Osaka

The morning in Osaka: the Dotonbori canal food street, the Kuromon Ichiba market, and a final Japanese breakfast before the airport. Osaka's Kansai International Airport is thirty minutes from the city. Your private driver transfers you to the airport at the agreed time.

  • Dotonbori final morning
  • Kuromon market
  • Private transfer to Kansai Airport
